Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation Hints
What should I do in the area behind the northeastern gate?
of 11: This area is basically a "penalty" area -- it unlocks if you enter a wrong code on the hieroglyphic buttons. If you can't get through this area, you always have the option of restoring to an earlier saved game and trying to find out how to open other gates. But once you open the gate, you must go through it, let it close on you, and find the switch to re-open it before the buttons will reset.
of 11: Basically, keep heading through various traps to the north and look for a switch on the far north side of this area. Pull it to re-open the gate back to the central room at the start of this level. Read ahead if you need a description of the traps or want help in getting past them.
of 11: Start by going across the pit north of the gate. Take a running jump on the far left (west) side of the pit.
of 11: Go through the door north of the pit and go down either hallway (to the left or right). Both contain a ball that drops from the ceiling and then releases blades, followed immediately by a set of four blades that occasionally come out of the ground and then another bladed ball.
of 11: From there, there will be three hallways. The west and east hallways themselves have just a single trap -- a set of sweeping blades that come at you near the center of the hallway. The center hallway also has a few sets of blades in the floor, similar to what you saw in the first hallway.
of 11: To avoid any damage, duck when the sweeping blades start to approach you.
of 11: Either way, you will need to go through one or two of the circular blade traps that you've seen on earlier levels. You have to go through one circular trap after going down the center hallway and two traps from either of the other hallways.
of 11: As always, backflipping through these circular traps while standing in front of them seemed to work best for me.
of 11: Then, head north and pull the switch at the end of the hall to open the gate back out to the 3 buttons. Go back through the traps to get out of this area.
of 11: If you tried running and jumping through the traps with the balls dropping from the ceiling, try going down whichever hallway you didn't take the first time. This way, the traps won't activate until you get near them, so you can repeat the same process you used to get to the switch.
of 11: Then, make sure you jump on the far right (west) side of the pit in front of the gate, since this is the only place you can make the jump safely. Grab onto the other edge and climb out.
