The Elder Scrolls III: Tribunal Hints
Tip: Helseth's Ring
of 10: If you're willing to try the fight and take the resulting consequences, King Helseth has a very powerful item on him.
of 10: His Royal Signet Ring has constant effects of Resist Magicka 100%, Reflect 100%, Resist Paralysis 100%, Restore Health 10 points, and Restore Fatigue 10 points. It's the new Robe of St. Roris, so to speak. Unfortunately, it's hard to get, and Helseth is a vital character in the game.
of 10: You could just cheat and make yourself a new Royal Signet Ring.
of 10: If you're determined to get it the non-cheat way, then wait until after you've finished all the Royal Palace main quests (if you're ever going to do them), then start off by taunting and killing the guards in the throne room one by one.
of 10: WARNING: I experienced an unusual number of game crashes while going through this process. You'll want to save before starting, and then again after every successful kill.
of 10: You may need to leave and go heal up, repair equipment, etc. between battles, but that won't be a problem. Once everyone but Helseth is dead, you'll already have a huge pile of treasure in Royal Guard armor and weapons (including Gravedigger, Delitian's unique and very powerful sword).
of 10: Once everyone else is cleared out, it's time to take on Helseth himself. He'll be quite a bit easier than you'd expect from the fact that he's wearing that ring with all those enchantments. The thing is, they don't always seem to be in effect on him, making it possible for you to hit him with high-powered spells and such without them being reflected or resisted. This is mainly true at first, before he goes into combat mode, so I'd advise using Delitian's magic Gravedigger sword or maybe some poisongrip arrows to strike the first couple of blows (after saving your game, of course).
of 10: TIP: You can't pickpocket the ring from Helseth, but you can pickpocket his Daedric dai-katana, making him much weaker on the offense. The best way is to use the Amulet of Shadows (or something else that can get you an 80%+ Chameleon effect) and repeatedly attempt pickpocketing until you get the sword.
of 10: Once Helseth is dead, raid his body and then wear his ring and royal Frostguard Robe forevermore, you totally powerful dude, you!
of 10: SHORTCUT: If you just want to quickly kill the king without messing with anyone else in the throne room, then use your Chameleon item and sneak up behind Helseth and deal him a critical strike with your favorite souped-up weapon. If that doesn't kill him instantly, then quickly finish him off, raid his body, and run for the exit. Due to your Chameleoned status, no one should be following or attacking you, and you may escape without even getting a bounty put on you! However, steer clear of the throne room as everyone in it will be hostile to you from now on (or go in and see how well your new ring does in helping you trash them). Even fairly low-level characters should be able to pull this off if they have good Sneak and weapon skills.
