The Elder Scrolls III: Tribunal Hints

Helseth's Champion

  • 1 of 12: After you've survived An Assassination Attempt, talk to Helseth again about "service to your king", and Helseth will ask you to fight his champion Karrod.  Go prepare as needed and then come back the next day for the fight.
  • 2 of 12: Part of that preparation may include getting advice on Karrod.
  • 3 of 12: Try talking to Queen Barenziah.
  • 4 of 12: She'll tell you that Karrod often hangs out in the Winged Guar.
  • 5 of 12: If you talk to the bartender Ra'Tesh on the bottom floor of the Guar, he may agree to help you out here.
  • 6 of 12: Talk about Karrod, then pick "losing a new customer," and Ra'Tesh will agree to help you soften Karrod up a bit, if you promise not to hurt him.
  • 7 of 12: Either way, go back to Helseth the next day and tell him you're ready to fight.
  • 8 of 12: Unlike many of the tougher fights in Tribunal, Karrod doesn't have any offensive spells to use against you and isn't 100% magic resistant.  That means you may be able to fight him with long-distance spells (as long as you're careful not to hit any innocent bystanders).  I also found that a Drain/Absorb Fatigue spell was somewhat useful, since that meant his own strikes would be much less effective after a while.  The other general Combat Tips will also work here -- pick your favorite(s).
  • 9 of 12: Fight Karrod until he's nearly down, and the fight will be stopped before you've actually killed him.  Report back to Helseth for a reward of the artifact Dagger of Symmachus.  I personally found this one to be useful against some of the creatures with high Reflect abilities, both since it gave me an extra 10% constant Reflect for my protection, and since it didn't have any offensive effects that could reflect back to me.  Of course, you may disagree, particularly if you aren't proficient in Short Blade, as I was.
  • 10 of 12: Then, after you finish this fight, a bit of an add-on to the quest occurs.  Talk to Helseth again about "recent events", and he wants you to "learn more about the attacks".  He orders you not to report back until you know all there is to know.
  • 11 of 12: You won't be done with this until you've finished Almalexia's final quest.
  • 12 of 12: Report back when you have finished that, and Helseth will give you a full set of Royal Guard armor as your reward.  You've now completed all of Tribunal's main quests.
