The Elder Scrolls III: Tribunal Hints

How high must my character's level be before I start Tribunal?

  • 1 of 3: Technically, any character can play Tribunal at any time, although many of Tribunal's quests do require higher-level characters.  Installing the Tribunal add-on does make some minor changes to the main Morrowind land (Vvardenfell), but most of the extra content takes place in the separate city of Mournhold, and you can travel back and forth between these two areas as you like.  If you want to, you can pick up some easier quests in Mournhold for some extra gold early in the game and buy items that may not be readily available in Morrowind.  Or, wait until you've finished the main Morrowind quests and come to Mournhold later.  Or do any blend or combination of the two that suits you.
  • 2 of 3: Realistically, most of the main quests in Tribunal probably require a character somewhere around level 35-40.  If you've been careful to pick up good items along the way in Vvardenfell, if you concentrated all of your skills and level-up attribute bonuses in one or two key areas, and if you otherwise tried to make the most of your character early on, you can probably manage at a lower level.  If you spread out your skills more widely, if you weren't careful about getting the highest attribute multipliers each time you leveled up, if you skipped the side quests that give you the best weapons and armor, or if you just want to breeze through the expansion, wait until you have a higher level.
  • 3 of 3: Characters specializing in Long Blade skills will probably see more of an advantage at a given level -- as that's what most of Tribunal's key weapons are.  Spellcasters may find Tribunal to be a bit tougher, since a number of monsters have Reflect spells or some sort of resistance to magic.
