The Elder Scrolls III: Tribunal Hints
Dark Brotherhood Attacks
1 of 10: You actually get this quest back in Vvardenfell -- the only Tribunal quest that doesn't start in Mournhold.
2 of 10: Have you tried sleeping yet?
3 of 10: If you do this a few times, you'll be woken up and attacked by a Dark Brotherhood assassin. The first attack will add an entry to your journal that suggests that you report the attempt to a guard. (If necessary, try sleeping outside.)
4 of 10: Pretty much any guard will do, but if all else fails, you can find an Imperial guard at any of the forts in Vvardenfell (Pelagiad, Darius, Ebonheart, etc.) Talk to them about "assassin," and they'll send you to Apelles Matius in Ebonheart.
5 of 10: You can find Apelles on the west side of Ebonheart. He'll probably be walking on or around the battlements near the Hawkmoth Garrison.
6 of 10: Talk to him about the "Dark Brotherhood", and he'll tell you that Asciene Rane in the Grand Council Chambers can send you to the island of Mournhold, so you can take care of your problem there.
7 of 10: Asciene Rane should either be standing around on the lower level of the chambers, or perhaps is walking around one of the spiral staircases. Mention "transport to Mournhold," tell her the truth about the Dark Brotherhood attacks, and she'll agree to teleport you to Mournhold.
8 of 10: Once you get to Mournhold, ask around for more information about the Dark Brotherhood -- all you need to complete this particular quest is information.
9 of 10: If you can get their dispositions up a bit, any of Helseth's Royal Guard will help you here. He told me that the Dark Brotherhood was in the Great Bazaar sewers. This little bit of information removed the Dark Brotherhood Attacks entry from my quest journal.
10 of 10: Of course, actually defeating the Dark Brotherhood is a completely different quest, but that's one of the main quests that's best done by higher-level characters. If you're just starting out with a new character, continue building your character for now, and come back to the sewers later.
