Ultima IX: Ascension Hints

Where is Serpent's Hold?

  • 1 of 11: Serpent's Hold was destroyed and is now under water.  It can be found offshore of an unnamed southern island.
  • 2 of 11: Sail your ship to the island shown on the Britannia map in between Trinsic and Terfin, and south of Buccaneer's Den.  (If you sail to Trinsic and travel by foot to its southern-most point, you might be able to swim to the island from the coast there.)
  • 3 of 11: The underwater entrance is near the south coast of that unnamed island.  Look for landmarks.
  • 4 of 11: There is a fallen statue on the southern end.  Find it, then look for ruins above ground on a tiny island nearby.
  • 5 of 11: Walk and swim across to that tiny island.  Now look in the water.  (This is much easier during the day. Or, cast Day or Light to brighten everything up.)  You should see the outline of the spiked peaks which are part of the old Serpent's Hold walls.
  • 6 of 11: Before you dive in, take some precautionary measures.
  • 7 of 11: Unequip your heavy armor (Blackrock and Plate), by putting them into your belt and pack.
  • 8 of 11: Cast the Mana Breath spell!  (You might also have a Blue Potion or two handy just in case you get delayed by biting fish.  You'll need to do this again to get out of here, so have an Orange Potion with you to restore your mana supply.)
  • 9 of 11: The underwater entrance is in between two rows of the spiked ruins of the walls.
  • 10 of 11: Once underwater, swim down in between the two rows.  Look carefully for the outline of a square hole at the bottom.
  • 11 of 11: Swim down into that hole and around through the water-filled passage, which ends with a sheet of falling water.  Swim through that waterfall quickly into Serpent's Hold.
