Uplink Hints

On safety -- what is there? (Remote systems)

  • 1 of 7: There are two types of security systems: Entry-type and internal protection.
  • 2 of 7: You need to hack through the Entry-type security systems to get in a system.
  • 3 of 7: The internal protection exists to hamper any malicious agents (no pun intended) who gain access to the system. Internal protection prevents you from modifying data (Proxies), accessing files (Firewalls) and rendering the system to ruin (Self-protective systems).
  • 4 of 7: On most systems (Internal Services Machines especially) you can turn the security off. Simply click on the Admin menu, then on Security. You'll see what systems are Enabled and which are Disabled. Self-protective systems cannot be turned off.
  • 5 of 7: There's also a handy software that lets you see what protection a system has.
  • 6 of 7: Purchase an IP Probe for such intentions. (This will be useful until you get the last versions to all the Bypassers or Disablers.)
  • 7 of 7: (By the way, Proxies and Firewalls _both_ prevent you from deleting files.)
