Uru: Ages Beyond Myst Hints

How do I solve the puzzle with four levers at the bottom of the elevator?

  • 1 of 26: First, you need to stand behind the levers, so that you are facing into the center of the room, as this is the only way that you can pull them.
  • 2 of 26: Each time that you pull a lever, one of the four tiles directly ahead of you will be raised one "step."
  • 3 of 26: You might guess that you want to be heading to the opening on the far side of the room, up high on the wall.
  • 4 of 26: You will also notice that the counterweights on the sides of the room lower, and you can no longer pull the levers once the counterweights are at the bottom.
  • 5 of 26: This gives you a total of eight pulls of the lever before you must restart -- the blue button on your right will do this.
  • 6 of 26: Each of the tiles has a ladder on its near side.
  • 7 of 26: But some ladders have fewer rungs than others.
  • 8 of 26: The closest ladder to you (the one controlled by the left lever) has 4 sets of rungs, the next one has 3, then 2, and then only 1 for the most distant tile (and rightmost lever).
  • 9 of 26: Think about how you can reach that opening at the top with just 8 pulls of the levers.
  • 10 of 26: Once you're through the opening, you should see a Journey Cloth, and then a switch that you can pull.
  • 11 of 26: Pull the switch to continue.
  • 12 of 26: Oops... it looks like you're just back where you started.  There must be some clue that you're missing here.  Although at least touching the Journey Cloth gives you a "save" back into this room -- something you may need if you want to leave here.
  • 13 of 26: Perhaps you'd like to go visit the gallery for another clue.
  • 14 of 26: Look for something that might show the four levers or the four tiles.
  • 15 of 26: You want to look at the stained-glass piece that has four colored crystals in the center and a rotating ring around the outside.
  • 16 of 26: The crystals corresponds to the levers back in the puzzle room.
  • 17 of 26: Notice that the rotating ring has D'ni numbers on it, and some of them are the same color as the crystals.
  • 18 of 26: Make a note of which colors go with which numbers.
  • 19 of 26: There should be 3 numbers for each of the colors.
  • 20 of 26: And only the numbers 1-4 appear on the ring.
  • 21 of 26: Specifically, three out of the four numbers 1-4 appear on the ring for each color (for example, there's a white 1, 2, and 3, but not a white 4).
  • 22 of 26: So maybe you're looking for the number that's missing, not the numbers actually on the ring.  Read ahead to learn what those are.
  • 23 of 26: Red: 1, White: 4, Green: 1, Blue: 2
  • 24 of 26: Notice that these numbers add up to 8 -- which is exactly how many total pulls you are allowed on the levers.
  • 25 of 26: So pull the levers the number of times indicated -- the leftmost lever 1 time, then the second lever 4 times, then the third lever 1 time, then 2 times for the rightmost lever.
  • 26 of 26: Once you've done this, a ring and a ladder should fall from the ceiling.  Climb up the ladders on the tiles until you can reach the ladder to the ceiling, and then climb that up to the next puzzle.
