Uru: Ages Beyond Myst Hints
Is there any way to get some light undeneath the waterfall?
of 21: First, if you haven't noticed, you can walk into the pool at the bottom of the waterfall, and then under the waterfall itself.
of 21: You may find a couple of light switches here -- they're at either end of the main part of the case below the waterfall. (They're sort of cylinder shaped, with a pipe sticking out of the top.)
of 21: But there's one part of the cave you can't light with the first light switches that you will find. It's to the left as you're going under the waterfall.
of 21: You may need to bring in another light source.
of 21: Explore the garden age until you find something that might provide a little light.
of 21: Once you reach the garden age, walk all the way along the path until you go through a small tunnel and reach a section with some floating plants in it.
of 21: Also notice the spitting plants that are shooting spores around this whole garden section.
of 21: Those spores seem to glow, don't they? (So maybe it's more accurate to call them fireflies.)
of 21: If only you could find some way to bring those fireflies with you, they would probably light up the dark part of the cave.
of 21: Once you have the fireflies, you need to lead them into the dark cave.
of 21: There's just a couple of problems with this -- and you may discover them yourself eventually -- but getting to the cave is a bit of a dangerous journey for these critters. (Review "Why did I lose the fireflies?" if you don't know why.)
of 21: Either you have to walk through the pool to get underneath the waterfall (which is bad) or you have to jump a couple of times over the pool to get to the cave (which is bad if you jump more than once).
of 21: But maybe you can make the journey a little safer for them.
of 21: Notice that one part of the pool is fairly narrow -- maybe you could create a makeshift bridge.
of 21: Look inside the cave.
of 21: You will see a basket that is just about the right size for this purpose. (It's in the middle of the cave, along a small section of wall next to the falls.)
of 21: You might want to test out your bridge by walking across it before you go get the fireflies. It's okay if you step very briefly into the water -- I don't think you can make an exactly perfect bridge -- but anything more than that is going to cost you the fireflies. (If you don't get it at first, just keep trying. This is a tough puzzle to get right in practice, but the basic idea itself really is fairly simple -- it's just that the interface doesn't make it easy to position the basket or keep it in place once it's there.)
of 21: Once you think you have the bridge in the correct position, go back to the garden age, get the fireflies, and walk them all the way to the cave.
of 21: Remember that you can jump once -- so you can get past the waterfall itself by jumping. Just remember to stay on dry land from the time you cross the bridge until you're ready to take a single jump over that last bit of water into the cave. (And make sure it's a standing jump, not a running one.)
of 21: Walk all the way into the dark part of the cave, and you'll see another light switch here.
of 21: Turn this on before you lose the fireflies, and now this section will be lit permanently.
