Uru: Ages Beyond Myst Hints

How do I open the hatch in the floor of the first room in this age?

  • 1 of 19: If you look down through the hatch, you might see that the room beneath you is filled with water.  And you won't be able to open that hatch until you find a way to remove the water.
  • 2 of 19: Go out of this room, follow the walkways until you reach an exit from this large cavern, and continue along the walkways outside until they dead end at a bucket against a railing.
  • 3 of 19: If you solve the puzzle with the buckets, the buckets should take you to a room at the top of one of the buildings.  Look around the room for some controls that might help you.
  • 4 of 19: As you first entered this room, walk away from the opening in the wall and look toward your left.  Walk past the elevator, and you should see a control panel that you can use -- just click on any of the controls once you're near the panel to get a close-up.
  • 5 of 19: You may find that some of the controls have more obvious uses than others.  The symbols should give you some indication of what the controls do, but you may also have to use process of elimination a bit.
  • 6 of 19: The switch on the bottom left seems to be some kind of power switch for the bucket system.  The symbol showing two arrows in a circle is the "on" position, and the symbol with one arrow is the "off" position.  The lever to the left works with the power switch -- you may need to pull it to get the system to start up after it's been turned off.
  • 7 of 19: But you're trying to get the hatch open -- and the only thing the buckets did or will do for you is get you into this room that you're already in.
  • 8 of 19: Remember what shape the hatch was.
  • 9 of 19: It was a hexagon.
  • 10 of 19: Just like the symbol on the switch in the lower-right corner of the control panel.
  • 11 of 19: The lines across the hexagon on the left seem to indicate that the hatch is locked -- and you would think that the symbol on the right means that it's unlocked.
  • 12 of 19: But if you noticed, that switch was in the "unlocked" position when you first got into this room, so unlocking the hatch isn't enough.
  • 13 of 19: You still haven't found a use for the lever in the center of the control panel -- maybe that's what actually drains the water out of the room beneath the hatch.
  • 14 of 19: Try pulling it.
  • 15 of 19: If it doesn't work, there may be some kind of safety system that you're overlooking.
  • 16 of 19: You probably wouldn't want to drain the room while the hatch was unlocked, in case someone tried to go down there while the drain was running.
  • 17 of 19: So move the switch to the locked (left) position, and then try pulling the middle switch again.  It should move down slowly, and then slowly rise back up.  This is your indication that the drain is working.  (If the lever moves all the way down and then right back up immediately, you may have already drained the room and forgotten about it.)
  • 18 of 19: Of course, you want to unlock the hatch again -- move the switch to the right position again, and you should be ready to open the hatch finally.
  • 19 of 19: Just go down the elevator, back into the center room, and click on the hatch near the red light and handle to open it.
