Uru: Ages Beyond Myst Hints
How do I get to the other side of the prison?
of 25: Notice the pressure plates on the floor.
of 25: Specifically, notice how many there are, and where they are placed.
of 25: You may have seen some sort of "map" that labels these plates for you.
of 25: From left to right -- working down the left side of the "V" shape that the plates form, and back up the right -- the numbers read 4, 7, 1, 5, 3, 6, 2.
of 25: You might think that those numbers give you some kind of combination for the pressure plates, right?
of 25: Well, they do, in a way, but it's not nearly as simple as simply stepping on the pressure plates in the order shown (i.e., the plate numbered "1" first, etc.)
of 25: You need to find the other half of the "key" to this puzzle.
of 25: Even if the gates out of here are closed, you can still see through them.
of 25: Look on the far wall, through the gates, and you will see seven signs there. Each sign can be either up or down.
of 25: Think about it -- seven plates, seven signs, and a "map" that numbers each of the pressure plates.
of 25: If you number the signs on the wall 1 through 7 from left to right, you should be able to match those signs up to the plates and the numbers given for each plate on the map. For example, the plate numbered "1" on the map is the third one from the left on the ground -- this corresponds to the leftmost sign on the wall, and that sign is "down".
of 25: The signs on the wall that are raised are 2, 4, 6, and 7. These correspond to the two plates closest to each of the two gates. The remaining three plates (1, 3, and 5) are the ones farthest from the gates.
of 25: You need to find a way to lower more than one plate at a time -- simply standing on them isn't good enough.
of 25: Notice all of the skulls and bones and other things on the ground.
of 25: There is no way to pick them up with your hands, but you can still move them around.
of 25: Walk into any of these objects, and your avatar will kick them around ahead of him/her. (Unfortunately, objects may go off to your side when you want to make them go straight. You just have to keep trying, turning around and putting objects back in your path when they start to stray.)
of 25: You need to put objects on top of each of the four plates closest to the two gates, and the gates will then open. (I first thought that you would need to lower the plates corresponding to the lowered signs, but the reverse seems to be true.)
of 25: The only problem is that there is another outer gate that closes when you opened the set of inner gates.
of 25: Maybe you can reverse the process -- close the inner gates and open the outer gate.
of 25: The outer gate closed when the signs and the plates matched each other.
of 25: Going back to fix the plates would just trap you back in the prison.
of 25: So click on any of the signs to close the inner gates and open the outer one. You can now proceed back outside.
of 25: As a side note, if you ever decide to go back into the prison, you will need to click the same sign that you clicked before -- to put things back to match the plates that have been lowered. Similarly, if you use a linking book to return to the start of the age and need to go back through the prison, you will have to look at the signs and raise or lower the plates to match whatever the signs say now. In these cases, the exact answer given in these hints may not be correct for you -- you will need to solve this puzzle given what you see for yourself -- but the general principle should be.
