Voyage Hints

The oxygen reading is too high; what should I do?

  • 1 of 11: You've got to lower the oxygen level in the capsule.
  • 2 of 11: In Ardan's time, there were no compressed bottles of oxygen, so it had to be generated another way.
  • 3 of 11: Heating potash produces oxygen.
  • 4 of 11: Notice the metal dish, with the screen cover, over the small flame.
  • 5 of 11: If the oxygen level is too high, the potash in the dish is being heated too much.
  • 6 of 11: How might you control the degree to which the potash is being heated?
  • 7 of 11: Note the small wheel below the flame.  That controls the gas that is burning.
  • 8 of 11: Click on the wheel to rotate it.
  • 9 of 11: Each click will move through a fixed cycle of low-medium-high-medium, and back again (beginning, of course, wherever the flame is set at the time).  It is not important which side of the wheel you click; it will always go through the same rotation.
  • 10 of 11: Bring the flame down one level (i.e., if it is set on high, bring it down to medium; if it is set on medium, lower it to the lowest setting).
  • 11 of 11: Keep an eye on the gauges; if you have overadjusted, you could have other repercussions that will involve readjusting it again later.
