Voyage Hints

How do I use the gold control on the pedestal overlooking the plateau?

  • 1 of 28: This appears to be some sort of altar; and by its location, it's obviously related to the five areas of the plateau that it overlooks.
  • 2 of 28: Note the shape of the object on top of the altar.
  • 3 of 28: Based on the toothed outer edge, it looks like a gear of some sort.
  • 4 of 28: Have you seen any other gears similar to this one in the area nearby?
  • 5 of 28: Make sure you've visited the top of the mountain (up the long stairway behind the altar).
  • 6 of 28: This gear must relate to the mechanism by the large gate at the top of the mountain.
  • 7 of 28: What is active on the altar?
  • 8 of 28: There are five "hot spots" in the five segments of the gear.  And there is an additional "hot spot" in the very center of the gear.
  • 9 of 28: What happens when you click on any of these "hot spots"?  (If you click on the center of the gear first, what it does may not be immediately obvious.)
  • 10 of 28: Try clicking on any of the five segments first.
  • 11 of 28: The segments change color.  And they do so in a very ordered manner, cycling through the five colors of the plateau, and back to blank (or "white").
  • 12 of 28: With some colors selected, click again on the center "hot spot".
  • 13 of 28: It causes the gear to rotate on the pedestal.
  • 14 of 28: What could this be used for?  And why would it have been placed in this specific location, overlooking the plateau?
  • 15 of 28: The five segments look as though they could represent the five areas of colored plants on the plateau.
  • 16 of 28: Have you checked Ardan's log recently?
  • 17 of 28: The log talks about not juxtaposing "unfriendly" colors.  That is -- keeping colors in an order that allows them to co-exist peacefully.
  • 18 of 28: That's why the five sections of the plateau are laid out the way they are.
  • 19 of 28: Maybe that has something to do with the gear, as well.
  • 20 of 28: What happens if you try to set the colors on the gear segments to match their counterparts on the plateau?
  • 21 of 28: Starting from the purple at the top, and continuing clockwise around the circle, that would be: purple, red, blue, yellow, green.
  • 22 of 28: Set each gear segment by clicking on it through the cycle of colors, so that each segment matches the segments on the plateau.
  • 23 of 28: When all five segments are set to the correct color, something happens with the altar.
  • 24 of 28: One of the blue bar lights underneath the gear lights up, the gear is "released" from the pedestal, and can be taken into inventory.
  • 25 of 28: Where might that gear come in handy?
  • 26 of 28: Go back up to the top of the mountain, and take a look around again.
  • 27 of 28: Use the gear to replace the missing gear in the mechanism to the left of the large gate.
  • 28 of 28: Note:  You can use the altar to create more copies of the gear.  If you look at the gear while it is in inventory, you can read a tip that indicates that it's not a bad idea to create another gear like the first, simply to carry with you, as a reminder of the order of the five colors on the plateau.  This is not necessary to progress in the game, but could be helpful later.
