Voyage Hints

The gate locked behind me, and I cannot get back out!

  • 1 of 25: Look around the inside of the gate area for something that might help open the gate.
  • 2 of 25: There is a panel to the right of the gate; take a close-up look at the panel (by clicking on it).
  • 3 of 25: This looks a bit more complex than the other panels you've seen so far.  Experiment with it, and see what is active, and how it operates.
  • 4 of 25: Note: this puzzle is randomized, and is reset each time you back away from the panel, and look at it again.  The hints here provide enough information to solve the puzzle for any setting, but cannot provide a specific solution, due to the randomization.
  • 5 of 25: The panel has 10 shapes at the top, each of which is active.
  • 6 of 25: Clicking on any of the shapes seems to do something -- but it may not be clear what that is yet.
  • 7 of 25: There are four blue bar lights, but only one is lit, if this is the first time inside the gate.  (Once you leave this area, and come back, you will still need to use this panel to open the gate, but a second blue bar light will be lit.  If you exit and return again, a third light will be lit, and then a fourth.  Further information about the purpose of these lights is included below.)
  • 8 of 25: There are also lights associated with each of the multi-sided buttons; and some of them will be lit.  If this is your first time inside the gate, the lights that are lit will be green.
  • 9 of 25: One other item of note -- although it is not active, in terms of the mouse cursor -- is the gold sphere-like object in the center of the panel.  As you experiment with pressing various hot spots on the panel, you may even see movement in that area.  That will be defined in more detail below.
  • 10 of 25: The shapes of the buttons at the top of the panel is critical to solving this puzzle.
  • 11 of 25: Why would there be so many different shaped buttons, with so many different numbers of sides?
  • 12 of 25: Each button represents the number that is equal to the number of sides on the button.
  • 13 of 25: For instance, the triangular button represents "3", because it has three sides;  the square button represents "4", because it has four sides.
  • 14 of 25: It would be advantageous to make notes of the different multi-sided shapes in the two rows of buttons.
  • 15 of 25: The solution to this puzzle involves fairly simple arithmetic.
  • 16 of 25: What might the green lights indicate?
  • 17 of 25: Green lights typically indicate a "positive" message:  "Go", "On", "Enabled", etc.
  • 18 of 25: In this case, green literally means "positive" -- or "add".
  • 19 of 25: Note each of the shapes with a green light underneath; add together the numbers that they represent.
  • 20 of 25: And press the button that represents the sum of those numbers.
  • 21 of 25: What happens when you click on the button that represents the "sum" of the green-lit numbers?
  • 22 of 25: The gold cover over the sphere in the middle of the puzzle moves slightly, and begins to open.
  • 23 of 25: This indicates that you are on the right track -- but more is needed.
  • 24 of 25: In fact, each correct answer causes the gold cover to open a little bit more.  And it will take five correct answers to open it completely.
  • 25 of 25: Opening the cover all the way causes the gate to open.
