How would I do that?

  • 1 of 8: The principal is basically the same as in our decimal numbering system.
  • 2 of 8: When you add two sets of numbers, you would typically start at the right-hand side, and add those two digits.
  • 3 of 8: If they totaled less than 10, you would just write down that total, and move left to the second column from the right.
  • 4 of 8: If they totaled 10 or more, you would write down the *last digit*, and then "carry" over to the second column.
  • 5 of 8: Suppose you were adding 27 and 46 in our decimal numbering system.  You would add the 7 and 6 first, find that it is 13 (i.e., greater than 10), and write down the "3" in that column.  Then you would "carry" the "1", and add it to the 2 and 4 in that column -- resulting in "7", which you would write in that column.  The answer, then, would be 73.
  • 6 of 8: In Selenite, addition works the same, but each digit can be as much as 19.  Take a situation where you need to add one number -- represented by a "2" in the first column, and a "14" in the second column -- and another number -- represented by a "6" in the first column, and a "9" in the second column.  Starting at the right again, "14" + "9" = 23.  But since you can't represent "23" in a single Selenite digit, you would write the "3" in that column, and "carry" the 20 (as a "1") into the left column, adding it to the "2" and "6" already there, to get 9.  The final result -- again, in Selenite (i.e., base 20) -- would be a two-digit number consisting of "9" and "3" (or 93, in Selenite).
  • 7 of 8: To solve this puzzle, then, add a Selenite "12" (or decimal 22) to the number in the top row.  When you get the result, enter it into the bottom row, in the same manner as when you solved a similar puzzle earlier.
  • 8 of 8: Since the number in the top row is randomly generated, there is no fixed answer to this puzzle.  You will need to figure out how to do the addition, and how to enter the total in the bottom row (by selecting each digit, and using the "dot" and "dash" buttons to cycle through the numbers).
