How do I use the "Purifier"?

  • 1 of 19: Have you looked carefully at all of the inscriptions on this complex machine?
  • 2 of 19: While it is called a "Purifier", the markings all show something very similar.
  • 3 of 19: In each case, there is a formula (of sorts)...
  • 4 of 19: ... and the formula always seems to begin with a rough sketch of this very machine!
  • 5 of 19: What can you make out of the various formulas?
  • 6 of 19: They appear to be "recipes" for a variety of items.
  • 7 of 19: And in each example, the rough diagram of the Purifier itself contains something you've seen before.
  • 8 of 19: You should recognize, in each case, the ideograms for either one or more of the five fruits, or for the plant seedlings themselves.
  • 9 of 19: That would indicate that the purpose of the Purifier is to take one or more fruits (or seedlings), process them in some way, combine them with one or more other items, and create a totally new compound.
  • 10 of 19: The first step in using the machine, then, is to correctly interpret each of the formulas.
  • 11 of 19: Once you have selected a particular formula to create, then begin from the left (i.e., the image of the Purifier itself), and determine which fruits (or seedlings) you need to put into the Purifier.
  • 12 of 19: Note that you cannot mix items after they are in the Purifier.
  • 13 of 19: So if a particular diagram indicates, for instance, that two different fruits need to be placed in the Purifier, how would you do that as a single "item"?
  • 14 of 19: In the case of two fruits, you will need to first turn them into a "compote", and put the compote into the machine.
  • 15 of 19: Anything to be put into the machine must be inserted into the hopper at the bottom.
  • 16 of 19: As soon as you place something in the hopper, the "shovel" door closes, and the processing begins.
  • 17 of 19: There are several different results that may occur after processing is complete.
  • 18 of 19: When the Purifier has finished working on whatever you put into it, you must take the result, and either make the necessary corrections (if the processing failed), or take the newly-produced substance from the machine, and continue to make the appropriate combinations indicated by the specific formulas (this time, just as simple combinations in your inventory).
  • 19 of 19: Hints for specific puzzles elsewhere in the file will give you more information on what exactly you need to make and when to make it, but here's an example if you want a better understanding of how the machine works in general.
