The Watchmaker Hints

  • 1 of 4: The first important thing to note about the Watchmaker is that even though there's a clock, the game isn't timed.  The clock is progressed by your actions.  If you're stuck somewhere in the game, try going back to places you've visited before.  You may find new things lying around that weren't there earlier in the game.
  • 2 of 4: Before you start looking for hints on a particular puzzle, make sure you've read the game manual thoroughly.  You might discover a nuance of the game interface that was keeping you from completing it.  This is particularly true in the Watchmaker, where the interface can be a little tricky.  One particular nuance you should note is that right-clicking performs just about every action you'll need in the game.  If the hints tell you to pick up something, manipulate something, talk to someone, etc., chances are this involves right-clicking on the thing.
  • 3 of 4: Also, notice that you're presented with most of the castle at the very beginning of the game.  Take this time to really get to know the place.  Open any door, cabinet, drawer, etc, and pick up anything that isn't nailed down. Talk to anyone you meet, and ask them everything you can.  For one thing, this will this beef up your inventory, and possibly progress the in-game clock.  Also, most of the hints in the file take for granted that you know what room they're talking about, so being familiar with the castle will be essential.
