The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Hints
What if I choose to check out their story?
of 8: Return to the camp and talk to Mavrick about the hut on the cliff.
of 8: You can tell him that the spirits claim he's a murderer, but he'll go off and get himself killed, thereby failing the quest.
of 8: If you instead say that you need his help to drive the specters off, he'll head off toward the hut.
of 8: Retrace your route to get back there. You'll meet up with Mavrick near the hut, after which you can lead him down to the beach.
of 8: When you approach the spot where you talked to the sisters before, they'll reappear.
of 8: During the conversation, you'll be able to turn Mavrick over to them ("he's yours") or support him in a fight against them ("don't listen to them"). Note that you can question Mavrick first, then either choose to believe him (to attack the specters) or say that he needs to answer for his deeds (to turn him over to them).
of 8: If you help Mavrick defeat the specters, he'll reward you and explain what really happened to his father and sisters.
of 8: If you turn Mavrick over to the specters, he'll turn hostile. You can hang back and let the specters kill him, but then you'll get the same ending (demon fight and failed quest) as if you'd told him earlier that the specters called him a murderer.
