Alone in the Dark 4: The New Nightmare Hints

How do I fix the drilling equipment in the oubliette?

  • 1 of 12: Take a look at the table just next to it.
  • 2 of 12: You will find a set of blueprints and a note telling you about the perforator.
  • 3 of 12: It seems that some of the parts were destroyed the last time someone used the perforator -- you need to fix it.
  • 4 of 12: Just fixing the device isn't enough, though -- you also need to power it back up.
  • 5 of 12: First, make sure that you've found the Abkanis stone and put it in the perforator, as described under "How do I fix the perforator?" above.
  • 6 of 12: Then look for an electrical charge.
  • 7 of 12: Like one that could be provided by the lightning conductor in the workshop.
  • 8 of 12: Notice that when you start up the lightning conductor, a clock starts to tick down.
  • 9 of 12: Once you've started the conductor, you need to run down to the oubliette and put the perforator back on its stand.  And that does mean *run*, using the appropriate key or button.
  • 10 of 12: It also helps if you go in through the once-locked door in the Inner Courtyard and through the planetarium, and don't climb over the wall in the Inner Courtyard.  If you don't stop along the way to fight any of the creatures, you should have enough time to make it to the oubliette and replace the perforator.
  • 11 of 12: If you still run out of time, you can always go back and start up the conductor again.  Keep trying until you solve this puzzle.  You'll almost definitely need to reset the conductor at least once, since part of your first 2 minutes will be used up trying to kill the creature that appears the first time you start the conductor.
  • 12 of 12: When the lightning strikes, it will charge the perforator, blowing a hole in the wall and letting you proceed to the next part of the game.
