Black Mirror II Hints
A manual?
of 10: Your goal here is to cut one of the ropes so that it'll drop a heavy trap down onto an unoccupied slab and weight it down. (This is necessary because the left side area only provided a way to deactivate three slabs, not four.)
of 10: You don't want to drop a trap on Cathrin or any of the slabs that were deactivated by the left side area's staffs. Before you do any cutting, you'll need to figure out which trap is attached to each rope.
of 10: Look around to see that each rope has a set of five colored symbols next to it. (There are two ropes that you can't see all of the symbols for, so ignore them.)
of 10: Click on the "description" hotspot again to get a close-up of a gadget that you can use to see what trap each rope is connected to.
of 10: You don't necessarily have to use the gadget to learn the trap type for every rope. You just need to keep using it with ropes' symbols until you get the right one.
of 10: Every time you enter a symbol set correctly and hit the button to get a picture of its rope's trap, press ESC to see if Darren will comment that he now knows which rope he has to cut. If so, you don't need to continue your rope research.
of 10: It turns out that the correct rope is the third one to the left from the exit to the great hall.
of 10: Just knowing that yourself isn't enough, though. You have to enter that rope's symbols into the gadget so Darren will know that it's the right rope to cut.
of 10: Once you get Darren to realize that the third-left-from-exit rope is correct, click on it to confirm that, and to get him to mention that he needs a knife to cut the rope with.
