Fallout: New Vegas Hints
The Legion is attacking Hoover Dam, the Legate's camp must be destroyed ....
of 12: When you regain control, get ready to help some NCR troopers kill a couple of Legion soldiers past the nearby door.
of 12: Go north slowly in the huge power plant room until some Legion soldiers come in through a door on your left. Retreat and help your troops take them down, then finish crossing the room and enter power plant 03.
of 12: Stay near the door while shooting down Legion soldiers, then go up the stairs on your left and look along the south walkway for the Overflow Control Console. If your Science skill is 65+, you can use the console to finish the "(Optional) Mike Lawson suggested flushing the Legionnaires through the ..." objective. Whether you can or not, go back down to the main floor and head north.
of 12: Kill off the run-in Legion troops as you go, then use the door in the north wall to reach power plant 02. In it, hang back and kill off the starting enemy soldiers, then move forward to get more to run in from the left.
of 12: Don't go for the door to power plant 01 right away if you used the Overflow Control Console earlier. Instead, climb up the stairs on the right so you can go through a door that leads outside. Kill the Legion soldiers out there, then go south down the wide walkway to find the pressure release valve that you need to use to complete the "(Optional) Activate the pressure release valve to flush the Legionnaires ..." objective.
of 12: Enter power plant 01 and fight your way along the upper walkway to one of the two doors that lead to the visitor center. It should be enemy-free, so use its main exit to finally get outside.
of 12: Go north and get onto the dam itself, hanging back at first to let the nearby NCR troopers and Great Khan warriors shoot down some Legion soldiers. Advance slowly along the dam, using sandbag walls for cover and allowing your allies to do most of the work.
of 12: When you make it to the checkpoint area, use the door to enter, then cross it and use the other door to exit. (Note that there's a hard-to-hack terminal on a table that has something to do with generator diagnostics, but I don't know of any value in hacking it.)
of 12: Soon after you exit the checkpoint, a veteran commander will talk to you and give you some options on what to do with Alpha Squad. You can get them to go on ahead of you if you can pass a Speech 85 check. Otherwise, have them either accompany you or take up sniping positions. I always preferred having them accompany me so they can take the brunt of each Legion squad's attack while I took cover behind sandbag walls and offered supporting fire. In any case, make your way across the rest of the dam and then down the road that leads to the Legate's camp.
of 12: Go through the big gate to enter the camp area, ready to kill a couple of Legion soldiers on its other side. Go down the road a bit, then turn right and shoot down a guard on your way to the camp enclosure's open drawbridge-style gate.
of 12: Stop at the gate and use your sniping weapon to take down the guards inside from as far away as possible, including the one that's on a guard tower over to the right. When the area is clear, cross the camp and start up the east path that leads up to the Legate's tent.
of 12: Near the top of the path, Legate Lanius will approach and talk to you. If you want to try to avoid a super-tough combat, say that maybe he's willing to listen to reason, then put your Speech and/or Barter skills to work. Unfortunately, one or the other will have to be 100 to avoid a fight.
