Fallout 2 Hints
Find a car upgrade.
1 of 9: Although not strictly part of any quest, you can find a way to improve the efficiency of your car, once you are able to buy one.
2 of 9: The car, by the way, comes from Smitty in the Den.
4 of 9: Keep heading through the caves, until you find a locked door blocking a ladder going up.
5 of 9: You can open the door with the lockpick skill, or if your skill isn't high enough, set a dynamite or other explosive charge in front of it.
6 of 9: Go up the ladder to reach a broken Highwayman that would have otherwise been inaccessible.
7 of 9: And search the car to get a fuel cell regulator. Note that this is not the same thing as he fuel cell controller that you must get for Smitty before he'll sell you his car.
8 of 9: Smitty can, however, put the regulator to good use.
9 of 9: For an extra $750, he'll install the part in your car, which will improve its fuel efficiency.
