Fallout 2 Hints
What skills should I tag at the start of the game?
1 of 4: First of all, you should decide what kind of character you want to play. The three character "types" provided as defaults the game (fighter, thief, and diplomat) cover all of the major bases, so if you don't want to put a lot of thought into character generation, you can take one of those. Or, you can copy the general concept but tweak the details. I personally wouldn't recommend trying to improve too many types of skills at once, though, or you won't really be high enough in any of them -- especially if you have the "Gifted" trait.
2 of 4: Obviously, if you want to try to go through the game as a fighter, you'll want to concentrate on fighting skills. But it wouldn't make much sense to tag skills that you don't plan on using -- for example, fighting skills are useless to tag if you are going to try to play the game peacefully. (And you can finish the game without killing a single person, if you want to go that route.)
3 of 4: Then, read through this section to figure out which particular skills will be the most useful.
4 of 4: Finally, just pick the skills that appear to be the most useful for the way you plan on playing the game, and tag those. Also, keep in mind that the perk "Tag" will become available at level 12, and this lets you add one skill to your tag list. So if there is a skill that you think won't be useful at start, but will be toward the end, go for that one. (Big Guns and Energy Weapons both come in mind as skills you might want to tag later.)
