Fallout 3 Hints

(Optional) Ask Leo Stahl at the Brass Lantern about buying Mentats.

  • 1 of 5: Find the Brass Lantern just north of the bomb itself and look for Leo Stahl inside. If he isn't there (don't forget to check the upstairs bedroom), look for him in the water processing plant in the NW part of town, or use your local area map and quest arrows to find him.
  • 2 of 5: Quicksave right before you talk to him, then mention his chem habit.
  • 3 of 5: When he gets defensive about it, say that you want to help.
  • 4 of 5: Then pass a Speech Challenge to get his key and the "(Optional) Loot Leo Stahl's stash at the water treatment plant for Mentats" objective. If you fail the challenge, quickrestore and try again until you pass it.
  • 5 of 5: The alternative is to ask what it's worth to him to keep his addiction out of the public eye. This gets you the "(Optional) Meet Leo Stahl at the water treatment plant for Mentats" objective, where you have to meet him at a specific place at night and pay him for mentats. Definitely *not* the best choice unless you really want another merchant to sell items to. (His chem store is separate from the Brass Lantern store.)
