Half-Life 2: Episode One Hints

Section 4: A Gunship, Lots of Zombies, and Two Sentry Guns (ep1_c17_02a)

  • 1 of 18: At the end of the hall, go through the storage door on the right and then move to the end of that short hallway to find another hall where Combine soldiers are shooting up zombies (and then you).
  • 2 of 18: Once that hallway is clear, you're going to need to figure out how to shoot that annoying gunship down.
  • 3 of 18: After the gunship is destroyed, you might want to go back to the previous chapter section and use its last supply tip to help you heal up.
  • 4 of 18: When you're ready to move on, go down to the lower floor of the big wooden building and find the double doors that are near the base of the stairs.
  • 5 of 18: Combine soldiers will blow the doors open soon after Alyx comments on the gunship's destruction, so be ready for them.
  • 6 of 18: Have fun using rockets to finish blowing up the weak parts of the wooden building if you like, then head through the blown-open doors to get to some more tripmines and a hopper.
  • 7 of 18: Look around for supplies, including inside another "open me" locker, then wait for Alyx to pick up a shotgun from the nearby gun rack and lower the nearby force field. (If she never does, see the above bug warning.)
  • 8 of 18: It's a good thing Alyx has that shotgun now -- there's going to be a lot of soldier and zombie fights in the next several hallways and side rooms.
  • 9 of 18: In the room past the double doors, you're going to have to drop down a big hole in the back right corner.
  • 10 of 18: The floor you land on beneath the hole is weak, and will drop you down into an area with a lot of water and barnacles, and a few broken walkways.
  • 11 of 18: Move carefully across that floor to reach the other side, where Alyx will soon rejoin you.
  • 12 of 18: Go through the doorway at the other end of the area and along the hall, past some dead soldiers.
  • 13 of 18: In the wrecky room at the end of the hall, you'll have to drop through another major floor hole, but watch out for the zombies and headcrabs down there. There's a bunch of them!
  • 14 of 18: After it's over, check around for supplies (especially where you dropped them from above), then go through one of the broken-open doors and explore the halls beyond.
  • 15 of 18: At one end is an open door that leads to an office and then to a surgery room that has health and armor items in it.
  • 16 of 18: Carefully avoid the swinging, sparking cable while getting the supplies and going out the red side door.
  • 17 of 18: Just past that is a dangerous hallway that's protected by hoppers and sentry guns. (Observe what happens to the nearby zombies.)
  • 18 of 18: After that, go back to previous areas and look for leftover supplies if you want, then head through the side door in the sentry guns' room to quickly reach Chapter 5: Exit 17.
