Half-Life 2: Episode One Hints
How can I get to that rocket ledge?
of 32: Soon after you go through the blasted-open train car, you'll reach a fence with a doorway blocked by wooden pallets.
of 32: Crouch down behind the pallets until the strider fires off a couple more warp cannon blasts.
of 32: After you hear some barrels explode, get out the pulse rifle and crouch-strafe around to see if there are any surviving soldiers nearby that you'll need to shoot.
of 32: After that, get the wooden pallets out of the way and go through the fence doorway and turn right.
of 32: You'll immediately come to a pillar and a red train car just past it. Turn right here to find a health recharger on one wall.
of 32: Then enter the train car with the open doors and bash your way through the crates with the crowbar.
of 32: When you come out the other end, turn right and find the short "ramp tunnel" car leading up to a higher level.
of 32: Find the next open train car and enter it, but hang back near its entrance until after the strider hits it with a warp cannon blast. (You may need to run forward and then back up in order to get the cannon blast to happen.)
of 32: Quickly kill the two poison headcrabs released from the parasite rockets by the blast, then move forward and raid the supply crates.
of 32: When you exit this car, quickly run across the tops of two red cars, and turn left to find a supply crate.
of 32: To the left of that, turn your flashlight on so you can see the gap between cars, then jump across to where a dead scanner has dropped an armor battery.
of 32: Now you can go up along the roof of your "ramp tunnel" car to get onto the top of the neighboring red car.
of 32: On the red car, stand where the strider can't see you and look ahead and to the left.
of 32: You see that ledge up there with the supply crate and health recharger on the wall? You need to run over and jump up onto it.
of 32: As soon as you do, get behind the solid metal wall to protect you from the strider's shots.
of 32: From the second metal-sheet wall, sprint straight ahead and fall down to a lower floor behind a train car.
of 32: Don't linger there long -- the strider will hit the car with one warp cannon blast after another to drive it backward, hoping to crush you.
of 32: It takes several shots to do that, so you have a bit of time to break the supply crates before you move on.
of 32: There's a narrow fenced-in trench of sorts that you can fall down into by running past the train car and taking a right.
of 32: NOTE: It is possible to jump over the trench and land on the train that's past it to the left, but this is very hard to do. It's probably easier to just drop into the trench and deal with it.
of 32: Two soldiers will rappel into the trench ahead of you, and the strider will detonate some explosive barrels.
of 32: Use the flashlight to examine the walls on the right as you make your way down the trench. Some of those walls are wooden, and can eventually be shot out by the strider.
of 32: When you get to the second metal wall past the first stretch (it's next to a pillar), you have two more hoppers to deal with before you can leave the trench.
of 32: As you look down the trench, you can see a well-lit red-and-white train car on the left side.
of 32: Between it and the nearer train car, which is in shadow, is a gap that you need to sprint for and run through, turning left and taking cover next to the train car as soon as you make it.
of 32: It is possible though hard to make this run without getting shot, so quickrestore and try again if you get badly damaged. (Also, the nearby supply crates will have health and armor if you're low.)
of 32: While sticking close to your protective train car, look across to the nearby wall to see a tall white ladder leading to a high-up ledge.
of 32: After waiting for the strider to calm down and hopefully move around a bit, run up that ladder and take cover behind the metal wall that's on the ledge just past the ladder.
of 32: Looking along the ledge with the flashlight on, you'll see a lot of spare rockets lying around, plus an infinite rocket crate. This must be the right place!
