Half-Life 2 Hints

Moving Back Up Strategy

  • 1 of 10: Wouldn't it be nice if you could get back up those grassy ledges that you had to drop down before the antlion guard appeared? Well, you can to a certain extent if you plan ahead and bring the items you need with you.
  • 2 of 10: Probably the easiest way is to bring the big wooden plank from earlier. (See the Optional Building Notes for more details on that.)
  • 3 of 10: Note that you can drop down to the sand without arousing the antlion guard -- you just can't go very far forward.
  • 4 of 10: If you take the big plank down with you, you should have enough room to maneuver on the sand to set up the plank without awakening the antlion guard.
  • 5 of 10: You need to lean the very tip of one end of the plank against the edge of the lowest grassy ledge. This is a bit of a pain, but it can be accomplished.
  • 6 of 10: If you get the plank set up, but it's too steep to use, crouch down and carefully push its base farther out.
  • 7 of 10: Once your plank is in place, quicksave and then go just far enough to rouse the antlion guard.
  • 8 of 10: Quickly run up your plank (which will only work if it wasn't set up too steeply) and use the gravity gun to blast it out of the way.
  • 9 of 10: Stay back and under as much cover as you can get on the ledge, and the smaller antlions should be the only ones who can get to you.
  • 10 of 10: Keep shooting them to avoid them killing you, and blast the antlion guard whenever you get a chance. (Use explosives and the crossbow for a faster kill.)
