Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper Hints
How can I fix the abandoned house's damaged gas pipes?
of 13: They're pretty badly messed up, with several sections missing.
of 13: To replace those missing sections, you'll need some replacement pipes and a blowtorch.
of 13: Click on Bluto's sack after picking up those items to get a pipe repair puzzle to come up.
of 13: First, put your three new pipe pieces in where pipes of the same shapes are obviously missing.
of 13: Now you need to weld those three pipes into place using your blowtorch, but you can't do that while any gas is going through them, since the blowtorch's flame would ignite the gas.
of 13: Notice the pressure gauge that starts out in the highest gas gauge hole. You can click on it to pick it up, and then put it in any of the other four gas gauge holes to see what the gas pressure is there.
of 13: If you put the gauge in the hole that's past the new pipe sections (just to the right of the pilot light), you'll see that the gas pressure there isn't zero.
of 13: But it's not so simple. The blowtorch's gas tank is empty, as Holmes noted when you first picked it up. You'll have to find a way to connect the blowtorch up to the gas before you can weld anything.
of 13: Once the blowtorch is working, you'll need to weld all five of the new pipes' join-points. (Note that the top wheel is already turned so that no gas is going through the new pipes.)
of 13: To find the join-points, slowly move the torch's flame along the new pipe pieces. When it starts emitting lots of sparks, click to weld that spot. (Don't forget to weld the spot where the elbow pipe joins with the vertical lead pipe.)
of 13: After you finish, all five new pipe join-points will be glowing reddish-orange, and you can click the torch back on the left side of the screen to drop it.
of 13: Now you have to do one last bit of wheel fiddling to get all of the gas to go to the pilot light.
of 13: Move the middle wheel ccw, and the top wheel cw. That'll do the trick!
