Threads of the Webspinner
  • 1 of 12: This is a sort of big maxi-quest that you can perform for Eno Hlaalu, the Morag Tong Grandmaster and sign-up guy. (Also note that this quest is never put in the game's quest journal.)
  • 2 of 12: To start this quest, perform all of the Writ Quests and Hlaalu's Special Duties. You'll get several of the Sanguine items you need to collect for this quest while doing those.
  • 3 of 12: When you have a Sanguine item in your inventory, it will show up as a conversation option when you talk to Hlaalu. For example, if you had the Belt of Sanguine Fleetness, then you'd have "Sanguine Fleetness" on the topic list. Choose it when you want to turn the item over.
  • 4 of 12: There are a total of 27 Sanguine items that make up the Threads of the Webspinner, one for each of the 27 skills in the game. Hlaalu starts out with one of them (Sanguine Enterprise), leaving 26.
  • 5 of 12: NOTE: There's an item in Barusi Venim's room in the Tower Living Quarters in Tel Aruhn called the Shortbow of Sanguine Sureflight, but it's not related to this quest despite its name, and therefore doesn't count toward the total.
  • 6 of 12: One of the writ quest guys (Guril Retheran) had the Sanguine Horny Fist item, so there's now 25 to go.
  • 7 of 12: During Hlaalu's special duties, you can obtain the items of:

        Sanguine Fleetness,
        Sanguine Denial,
        Sanguine Martial Craft,
Sanguine Sublime Wisdom, Sanguine Stolid Armor,
        Sanguine Sureflight, Sanguine Hewing,
Sanguine Balanced Armor, Sanguine Deep Biting,
        Sanguine Nimble Armor, Sanguine Swiftblade,
Sanguine Fluid Evasion, Sanguine Red Wisdom,
        Sanguine Transcendence, Sanguine Transfiguring
  • 8 of 12: That's 15 more, bringing the total left to find down to 10. Getting these last Sanguine items isn't part of any quest, so I have hints for finding each of them below.
  • 9 of 12: NOTE: You'll probably want to put off the last five of those until you're at least level 12 with really good equipment and skills. Invisibility potions and Chameleon spells could help in sneaking past tough enemies, too. And don't forget that you can use the Sanguine items that you've recovered so far -- there's no hurry in turning them in.
  • 10 of 12: Once you turn in all of the Sanguine items to Hlaalu, you'll get a new spell called Mephala's Skill. It's a cool combo spell including Chameleon, Fortify Attack, and Fortify Short Blade. Its magicka cost is very low, and it never fails. (Note that patched versions of the game remove the Fortify Short Blade component in order to rob you of the ability to create Fortify Skill spells and enchantments. Fortunately, the Tribunal expansion makes those possible again.)
  • 11 of 12: Oh, and you'll want to kill Hlaalu sometime to get all your neat Sanguine items back. See the "Grandmaster" quest to find out when to do it.
  • 12 of 12: BUG NOTE: Even in patch version 1.6.1820, Hlaalu sometimes doesn't give you the Mephala's Skill spell even if you return all of the Sanguine items. If this happens, try talking to him about all of them again. If that doesn't work, try restoring a save from right before you turned in the last few items and try it again. If all else fails, you can use the PC console to get the spell by typing:

    player->addspell "skillmephala_sp"
