Myst III: Exile Hints
How do I solve the puzzle with the two rotating rings?
of 10: Start by walking up to the control panel in front of the rings, then pull the lever on the ground to raise the platform with the panel. Pulling the lever also lets you use the controls on the panel.
of 10: Take a look at the various features on the control panel. You probably won't be able to tell what each control does quite yet, but it helps to know what's there. (You'll have to do a lot of experimentation along the way to solve this puzzle.)
of 10: After you've looked at the puzzle, the most obvious place to start is to pull the lever beneath the two white-and-blue wheels.
of 10: Once you do this, you'll summon a crystal ball, and it will land on one of the circles around the ring to the left.
of 10: That ring and the wheel on the left of the control panel will start to rotate counter-clockwise.
of 10: If all you did was pull the lever, not much will happen -- the ball will just be destroyed after the ring rotates 360 degrees.
of 10: But take a look at the circles around the rings -- not all of them are the same.
of 10: First, notice that of the 6 circles around each ring, 3 of them have a solid bottom and 3 are open.
of 10: Also notice the red pegs at the bottom of the control panel.
of 10: Once you've put the three pegs in the correct positions, pull the lever beneath the wheels one last time. The ball will travel from ring to ring until it reaches the track on the right side and makes it back into the building in the center of this age. As a reward, you'll be shown a pattern of hexagons on the control panel.
