Myst IV: Revelation Hints

How do I get inside the old Memory Chamber?

  • 1 of 36: Have you tried to use the bathysphere?
  • 2 of 36: If you ride in the old bathysphere, pay close attention to what you see out the window...
  • 3 of 36: ...in particular, as you are moving down and back up.
  • 4 of 36: You should be able to see what looks like a small door under the memory chamber.
  • 5 of 36: Unfortunately, the door is under water.
  • 6 of 36: In Achenar's journal, he mentions an underwater door into the old memory chamber.  So, there must be a way to use it!
  • 7 of 36: You can only get to the door if you can figure out how to get rid of a lot of the water from the pool of water around the bathysphere.
  • 8 of 36: But there is a constant supply of water feeding into the pool.  As long as the water keeps running into the pool, you won't be able to lower the level of the water.
  • 9 of 36: In order to stop the water supply, you'll have to figure out how to set the water control units that are situated at various different locations of Serenia.
  • 10 of 36: If you study the waterways -- the location of the streams of water, and the direction of water flow -- you should be able to determine how to set the water control units.
  • 11 of 36: You could also use the map of the waterways to help you -- if you can decipher it!  (Good luck!)
  • 12 of 36: Sirrus doesn't want anyone to stop the flow of water and find the hidden entrance.  Perhaps that's why he smashed one of the water control units.
  • 13 of 36: You cannot repair the smashed water control unit.  However, there is more than one way to stop the water!
  • 14 of 36: But if you study the waterways carefully, you should be able to figure out how to set the other water control units to stop the flow of water before it reaches the smashed unit.
  • 15 of 36: If all three units are correctly set, then the pool at the old bathysphere will be calm and not draining out the back of the pool.
  • 16 of 36: The next step is to figure out how to lower the water in the pool under the bathysphere.
  • 17 of 36: The bathysphere itself can help you solve that problem.
  • 18 of 36: Lowering the bathysphere into the water can displace some of the water.
  • 19 of 36: To do so, pull the right lever forward to close the bathysphere.  Then pull the left lever forward to lower it.
  • 20 of 36: Once the bathysphere has been lowered, water will drain from the pool, and the bathysphere can be raised again (push the left lever back).
  • 21 of 36: Have you tried to climb down the stairs, into the pool of water under the bathysphere?
  • 22 of 36: If you look through the window, you'll see a wooden door on the other side of the pool.
  • 23 of 36: Perhaps if you could open the wooden door, you'll be able to lower the water further.
  • 24 of 36: The control for the wooden door across the pool is accessible near the window.
  • 25 of 36: Turn the wheel to the right to pull the wooden door up and let more water drain out.
  • 26 of 36: Hmm... It *still* seems like more water will need to be drained!
  • 27 of 36: Again, think about how the bathysphere can help you.
  • 28 of 36: Make sure that the door to the bathysphere is closed (pull right lever forward), then lower it again.
  • 29 of 36: When the bathysphere is lifted up again, additional water will have been forced out of the pool.  But it still isn't enough.
  • 30 of 36: Think how the bathysphere can help you further.
  • 31 of 36: Perhaps you could use it to lift some additional water out of the pool.
  • 32 of 36: Lower it again -- only this time with the door open.
  • 33 of 36: To open the bathysphere, push the right lever back.  Then use the left lever to lower the bathysphere and fill it with water.
  • 34 of 36: Be sure to close the bathysphere before lifting it out again, so it can lift the maximum amount of water from the pool.  To close the bathysphere when it is underwater, pull the right lever forward again.  Lift it back up with the left lever.  Be sure to leave the bathysphere closed, or the water inside the bathysphere will drain back into the pool.
  • 35 of 36: Okay, let's try getting down those stairs again!
  • 36 of 36: At the end of the hallway, you will find a colorful door, leading inside the memory chamber.
