Myst V: End of Ages Hints
How do I navigate the maze where every wall has a colored button?
of 14: First, if you haven't found this puzzle, you will be there just after you successfully figure out what to do the red canister in the hallway below the arena.
of 14: This is far more regular of a "maze" than you may used to be seeing in other games. When you first start out, you can choose from four different directions/buttons (walking around the hole in the floor as necessary). Then, the path always forks in two after each button -- until you've reached the fourth button. The path dead-ends after that fourth button, and you'll have to turn around.
of 14: That is, unless you find and press the correct sequence of buttons.
of 14: You may have already found a hint to this puzzle. If not, you'll either have to resort to trial and error or just go look for it. (And I recommend looking -- there are 64 paths through this maze.)
of 14: Go back to the trade house and explore there.
of 14: Look for a piece of paper that just about gives you the answer.
of 14: On a table that's in the room to your right as you're coming from the arena, there's a piece of paper with the color blotches, blue, green, red, and red.
of 14: But if you go back to the maze, you'll notice that no path starts out with a blue button.
of 14: Could it be upside down, like the combination to the jeweler door was?
of 14: In fact, that's it -- if you picked up the paper, the game flipped it 180 degrees for you. (But there's no point going back to do that now.)
of 14: There are two paths in the maze that start with red buttons. Only trial and error -- or having mapped out the maze -- will tell you which one to start with, unless you want to read ahead for the answer.
of 14: When you're at the hole, start with the red button that is *not* next to the hallway with another canister. Equivalently, look for the green button at the start and turn 90 degrees to the left -- where you'll see the correct red button.
of 14: From that red button, turn right, right, then left and press the red, green, and blue buttons in that order as you proceed down the maze.
of 14: If you've chosen the correct path, pressing the final (blue) button will open a door, which you can now walk through.
