What do I do inside the door at the bottom of the stairs?
1 of 15: Your goal is to pick up the artifacts and the small statue from the shelf without dying. If you haven't already, move the cursor around the screen to figure out what is active. One item will be active, but the name of the item will not be displayed at the top of the screen.
2 of 15: Notice that there are large stone "dials" on the front of the shelf. It is possible to go into a close-up of them.
3 of 15: The dials will turn from right to left when you use the left mouse button; and from left to right when you use the right mouse button.
4 of 15: In order to solve this puzzle, you will need to determine the correct setting for the set of three stone dials.
5 of 15: One clue to this puzzle can be found on the back of the map of the locations of the Mayan Temples. To see the back of the map, right-click on it in the inventory, then click on the arrow at the top right of the map.
6 of 15: Study the map carefully to see how the numbering system works (Mayan numbers and their equivalents are shown at the top), and how to write larger numbers (see the explanation of a number on the lower portion of the paper).
7 of 15: Notice the pillars (with all the Mayan dots-and-lines numbers) next to the shelf? The sets of dots and lines are the main clue to figuring out the correct setting for the stone dials.
8 of 15: Each of the two pillars has enough symbols on it to represent two different Mayan numbers.
9 of 15: You will need to figure out how to use the two existing numbers to derive a third number for the stone dials.
10 of 15: The third number is derived by adding the two Mayan numbers together.
11 of 15: There are two ways to add the numbers -- either add them as Mayan numbers (remembering when to "carry the 20") or converting them into a modern numbering system, then converting them back into Mayan numbers after the addition.
