Re-Exile

  • 1 of 15: You'll get this quest while working on the "Ancient Knowledge" quest.
  • 2 of 15: Start by talking to the telthor berserker who's standing NE of the glowing ash tree that's in the center of the Ashenwood area.
  • 3 of 15: Tell him you'll seek out a new essence for the tree, then go NE and cross the river to find the frost giant invaders.
  • 4 of 15: They're not hostile at first, so talk to their jarl to find out what their story is.
  • 5 of 15: Keep talking until you can challenge the jarl for his crown.
  • 6 of 15: After you do, you'll have to stay near the crown and fight off all the frost giants that come after it.
  • 7 of 15: When a giant picks up the crown and puts it on, concentrate your attacks on him until he drops the crown and runs away.
  • 8 of 15: After chasing off lots of regular frost giants, you'll have to fight the currently reigning frost giant jarl, who's a lot tougher.
  • 9 of 15: Beating him down will get you the jarlship, and the frost giants will leave the forest.
  • 10 of 15: Check the nearby sacred pool to see that it has some pure sanctuary water in it.
  • 11 of 15: However, as your journal will remind you, it needs a spirit essence, not sanctuary water.
  • 12 of 15: So take the sanctuary water and then put in a spirit essence.
  • 13 of 15: It's best to use a volatile spirit essence instead of a better one. That way, you can save the better ones for crafting.
  • 14 of 15: As soon as you transfer a spirit essence from your inventory to the sacred pool's inventory, you'll get a cut-scene and the quest will be completed.
  • 15 of 15: NOTE: If you want to provoke and fight the telthor berserker who gave you this quest in order to get some XP, you'll need to do that before putting the spirit essence into the sacred pool.
