What are some other essence-getting options?
1 of 6: You could use diplomacy to convince the telthor berserker to let you turn him into a volatile spirit essence.
2 of 6: You can also talk Grigarii's spirit into giving you a brilliant spirit essence.
3 of 6: Grigarii's spirit will be on the island if you've helped his berserker friend -- see the General Ashenwood Tips.
4 of 6: If you get Grigarii's essence, have Safiya divide it up into eight volatile essences so you can use one of those.
5 of 6: Or instead of a spirit essence, you could use the unique Shape of Fire essence if you've already done the "Burning Hatred" quest.
6 of 6: However, the only bonus thing you get for using that essence is a small chaotic alignment shift, plus some flame effects on the island. That's not worth wasting a unique and powerful item crafting essence for.
