The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
Miscarcand
of 18: This quest starts when you ask Martin how else you can help after turning over the armor of Tiber Septim. (Note that this quest may be doable before "Bruma Gate.")
of 18: You're to find a special Great Welkynd Stone that's rumored to still be in Miscarcand (location 7 on the West Weald map), so get over there and start looking for it.
of 18: From the ruins' entrance, head south and west, then around north to get to a large room with battling goblins and zombies.
of 18: After they're all dead, look around on the floor to find a couple of regular Welkynd stones (remember that using them can restore magicka), then head back the way you came.
of 18: Just west of the large room you were in is a closed iron gate that claims to be opened remotely. However, if you head south and follow that path along, you'll just find a similar gate blocking progress.
of 18: Go through the southern of those gates to find the door to the Sel Vanua area.
of 18: In the first room in that area, there are several undead and goblins who may be ignoring each other. If so, get those party animals together! (Then retreat to the door and beat up any who come after you.)
of 18: Since the gate near the NE corner of the room can only be opened by the pressure plate on its other side, head down the passage in the room's SE corner.
of 18: When you come to the upper walkway of the next large goblin-vs.-undead room, drop down into it and check for loot (including lots of Welkynd stones on pedestals).
of 18: You can find the west passage near the NW corner of the room and take it so that you can use the pressure plate to open up that gate you saw earlier, but it's not necessary.
of 18: The gate you need to open is the one in the passage that leads off north from the room.
of 18: Past that gate is the entrance to the Morimath region, which is the one with the Great Welkynd Stone that you're after.
of 18: It's easy to get to the large central chamber where the stone is, but note that you'll have to enter the chamber on its upper floor to get to the stone. (The staircases that lead up there from the lower floor won't rise until after you get the stone.)
of 18: Save your game before grabbing the stone, since doing so will unleash the powerful lich called King of Miscarcand plus two special zombie guardians.
of 18: After those undead goons are re-dead, loot the king for his magic staff and the Miscarcand key, then step on the pressure plate in his room to open two side passages.
of 18: The east passage just has a zombie and some treasure, but the west one leads to an alternate exit from this region. (To go back the way you came, you'd have to pick a tough lock on a closed gate.)
of 18: If you take the alternate exit, you'll end up in a previously inaccessible section of the starting region, and can use a pressure plate to open a short route leading to the ruins' exit door.
of 18: Fast-travel back to the Cloud Ruler Temple and talk to Martin to turn over the Great Welkynd Stone.
