The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

Find the Heir

  • 1 of 17: This quest is given to you by Jauffre after you turn over the Amulet of Kings.
  • 2 of 17: The heir, Martin, is in the Chapel of Akatosh in Kvatch (which is on the Gold Coast map).
  • 3 of 17: Either on foot or on Prior Maborel's horse, fast-travel to the refugee camp that's at location 13 on the map.
  • 4 of 17: A guy will run up to you and tell you about the city's destruction by Daedric forces.
  • 5 of 17: TIP: You might want to stop and talk to the other people at the camp or do store business with the orc woman. (But be warned that she's got a Mercantile skill of 100.)
  • 6 of 17: Go up the winding road that leads off to the north to reach the barricade near what's left of the city.
  • 7 of 17: Talk to Savlian Matius, who will tell you that Martin is probably holed up with other refugees in the city's chapel.
  • 8 of 17: You'll start encountering Daedra creatures as you move past the barricade and approach the city gates, so either prepare to fight them or wait and let Matius' guards do it for you.
  • 9 of 17: Go past the large flaming Oblivion gate to reach the city gate, then start searching the city for the chapel.
  • 10 of 17: If you head straight north from the city gates, you'll find two doors to the Chapel of Akatosh ahead and to the right.
  • 11 of 17: After talking to Tierra, find Brother Martin nearby and talk to him about why you're there.
  • 12 of 17: He'll refuse to leave until it's safe for everyone to leave, which will require you to break the Daedric siege on the city.
  • 13 of 17: Brother Martin will take off with the rest of the refugees after the siege quest is over, so you can either let him go and then find him in the refugee camp south of the city later on, or you can talk to him before he leaves and get him to start following you right away.
  • 14 of 17: TIP: Brother Martin can be a helpful (and unkillable) companion during many combat-heavy quests and dungeon lootings, including Matius' optional quest.
  • 15 of 17: When you're ready to give Brother Martin up as a companion and finish this quest, fast-travel back to Weynon Priory.
  • 16 of 17: Right after you arrive, Eronor will run up to you and inform you that the place is under attack.
  • 17 of 17: NOTE: It is now possible for random Oblivion gates to open in various spots in outdoor areas, including near the cities. If you come across such a gate, you can enter it and shut it down much like you did the one next to Kvatch. Check the region maps to find all possible random gate locations, and see the Oblivion Worlds hint section for more details on each world that the gates can take you to.
