The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
Confront the King
of 15: After you give Traven the colossal black soul gem, talk to him about "Tasks" again.
of 15: Traven will tell you to go after Mannimarco, and will then kill himself!
of 15: That looks totally insane, but he knew that the soul gem was made specially for him. With his soul in the gem, and the gem in your possession instead of Mannimarco's, you should be immune to that evil jerk's special Enthrall spell.
of 15: Search Traven's body to get the filled colossal black soul gem, then look around for anything else you might want to take with you (like the large white ice staff that's lying around in the Arch-Mage's Quarters area).
of 15: As you approach the cave, you'll be assaulted by Bolor Savel.
of 15: Kill him and get his key so you can get in through the cave's locked front door.
of 15: Needless to say, the cave areas are chock full of necromancers and undead. Fight your way through the first batch to reach the door to Echo Passages.
of 15: It just has more of the same, so fight your way through it to reach the Echo Necromancer's Chamber.
of 15: Go west and north to find a necromancer adept to kill, then save your game and approach Mannimarco on his large "island."
of 15: He'll try using his Enthrall spell on you, but it'll fail due to your special black soul gem.
of 15: If you talk to him, he'll just try to cast the same spell on you afterward. It's up to you to start the combat. (Unless you have a patch installed, in which case he'll start combat right after talking to you.)
of 15: He'll be fairly easy to take down if you start off with a Paralyze spell and follow up with a really powerful magic weapon (like the ones you can get from the Daedric Shrine Quests).
of 15: After he's dead, take his special staff and robe, then look around for other loot before you head back to the Arcane University.
