The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
How can I get a good soul-trapping weapon?
1 of 6: A very powerful one called Umbra is available, and even level 1 characters can get it, though it's a bit of work. See Clavicus Vile's Daedric Shrine Quest for all the details (even if you can't do the actual quest).
2 of 6: Another way is to gain access to an enchanting altar so you can make your own Soul Trap weapon.
3 of 6: Buy the Soul Trap spell from one of the people listed as Soul Trap sellers in the Spell Finding list, then get your Mysticism skill up to 25 or more using the Magic Skills Practice Tips if you haven't already.
4 of 6: If you haven't yet found any soul gems with souls already in them, go buy one from a magic shop. (Or get an empty soul gem and fill it by killing a creature after casting the Soul Trap spell on it.)
5 of 6: Now you can go to an enchanting altar and enchant a cheap weapon of your favorite type with Soul Trap for 1 second (leave the Area field at nothing).
6 of 6: Even if you use a petty soul for the enchantment, your weapon will still have 50 uses before it needs recharging.
