Portal 2 Hints
How can I defeat Wheatley?
of 17: Taking a quick look around his lair, you won't see any portal-friendly surfaces.
of 17: However, you will see a gel tube with white conversion gel flowing through it.
of 17: As soon as you arrive in the lair, go stand behind the tube so that it's directly between you and Wheatley.
of 17: Before long, he'll start launching explosives at you. Since the pipe is between you and the explosives, they'll hit the pipe and break it, causing conversion gel to be splattered all over the place.
of 17: Quicksave right after that happens, then move out from behind the pipe and look around the room.
of 17: You'll notice that there's a huge splotch of conversion gel on the floor, and that there's also conversion gel splattered on several high-up extended wall plates.
of 17: Since Wheatley is holding all of his shield plates down low to avoid damage from bombs being portaled up into him from the floor, you'll need to use the high-up wall plates to portal-fling bombs onto his upper body.
of 17: Quickrestore after you're through looking around (you are on a countdown timer here), then run out from behind the pipe and fire an orange portal onto one of the high-up wall plates.
of 17: Stand on a spot where the floor has conversion gel on it, then watch the bomb launcher that's near the top of Wheatley. When it starts firing bombs, quickly strafe out of the way and put a blue portal on the floor where you were standing. Or put a blue portal on the floor before the bombs start launching, then walk (or crouch-walk) right up next to it without falling through.
of 17: Note that all the bombs in a set will go straight toward the spot you were standing on when the first one launched, so you don't need to worry about them homing in on you after you move from that spot.
of 17: Quicksave again after you hit Wheatley with a bomb, then figure out a way to get the corrupted core that GLaDOS brought in and install it in Wheatley.
of 17: Quickrestore and do that again if you need to get it done faster, then get ready to redirect Wheatley's bombs back at him again.
of 17: This time, he'll raise all of his shield plates up, so you'll need to put the orange portal on the floor directly underneath him. This is a trickier placement to get right, so move up close to him and place the orange portal under his center before he can fully recover, then be ready to quickly change the orange portal's position after the bombs start coming if the first one doesn't hit him.
of 17: After he's stunned again, you'll need to fetch another corrupted core and install it.
of 17: After he recovers again, he'll spread his shield plates around so that he can protect himself from bombs that come at him from high-up plates and the floor.
