Return to Mysterious Island Hints

I've found a monkey who seems to be hurt; how can I help him?

  • 1 of 30: Apparently, this monkey was attacked by the other monkeys, and is in bad shape.  Your best approach is to try and meet his needs in a priority manner.
  • 2 of 30: His primary need appears to be first aid.
  • 3 of 30: Let's start with the head wound -- looks like it could use some dressing.
  • 4 of 30: If you had some clean cloth, you could use it to bandage the wound.
  • 5 of 30: Use the clean cloth to bandage Jep's head.
  • 6 of 30: With the urgent problem addressed, let's see if we can help Jep further down the road to recovery.  If only we had a first aid box...
  • 7 of 30: But there are some natural "medicines" nearby that might be able to help us.
  • 8 of 30: Explore the area, paying special attention to the plants near the various paths.
  • 9 of 30: On one path, a snake is blocking access to some plants that look like they might be helpful.
  • 10 of 30: Use your knife to retrieve a medicinal plant from beside the snake.
  • 11 of 30: You can't just give Jep the plant; he won't know what to do with it.
  • 12 of 30: But he certainly is hungry and thirsty.
  • 13 of 30: If only there was some water handy.
  • 14 of 30: Of course, there's plenty of water in the lake, but we don't have anything to carry it in.
  • 15 of 30: Combine the medicinal plant with a bowl of water in your inventory.  We've got a remedy that's ready to heat up.
  • 16 of 30: Heat the remedy over a fire, and give it to Jep.  (Any source of heat will work -- including the sulfur spring near the snake.)
  • 17 of 30: Good start!  That should get him recovering.  But in the mean time, he still looks uncomfortable.  He's probably still in some pain.
  • 18 of 30: Too bad he can't just take two aspirin.
  • 19 of 30: But maybe there's a substitute we can use.
  • 20 of 30: Come to think of it, aspirin was originally derived from willow bark.
  • 21 of 30: Have you seen any willow bark nearby?
  • 22 of 30: Check the area down by the lake, just past the snake...
  • 23 of 30: ... particularly looking for a stump near some bamboo.
  • 24 of 30: Use your knife to take some willow bark from the stump.
  • 25 of 30: Combine the willow bark with a bowl of water in your inventory.  (If necessary, refill the water bowl at the lake.)
  • 26 of 30: As with the medicinal plant, heat the combination over a fire, and give it to Jep.
  • 27 of 30: This is a lot better!  Now that the high-priority first aid items have been addressed, hunger is most likely his next highest need.
  • 28 of 30: Do you have any food that you can give to Jep?
  • 29 of 30: Jep will eat anything that you may have left over from the beach, plus any additional food you may have run across while exploring the island paths.
  • 30 of 30: With a full stomach, Jep is ready to rest.
