The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hints

How can I lower the bridge?

  • 1 of 8: Go up the stairs that are on the side opposite the bridge to find a rotating pillar puzzle. That must be the bridge-lowering gimmick.
  • 2 of 8: For a clue on how to set the four pillars, go through the nearby door and kill a draugr, then check the room's four door-shaped alcoves.
  • 3 of 8: Two of them are blank stone, and the other two show carved heads with animal symbols in their mouths.
  • 4 of 8: Those alcoves must match up to the rotating pillars, probably in left-to-right order. If so, then the second-from-left pillar needs to be set to a falcon, and the rightmost pillar needs to be set to a whale.
  • 5 of 8: As for the other two, try standing on the pressure plate that's in the middle of the room's floor.
  • 6 of 8: As long as you're standing on it, rotating wall sections will go by in front of all four of the alcoves. All you have to do is stay on the pressure plate and watch an alcove until its symbol is revealed.
  • 7 of 8: You'll find that the leftmost alcove's symbol is a whale, and the second-from-right alcove's symbol is a snake.
  • 8 of 8: Go set the four rotating pillars in left-to-right order to whale-hawk-snake-whale, then step on the nearby pressure plate to lower the bridge.
