Tales of Monkey Island Hints
How do I use the Giant Wind Control Device?
of 9: The first obvious thing to do is use your Ancient Tool in the open clamshell next to the huge idol face.
of 9: This doesn't stop the winds, but it does make four new idols pop up all over the island. You know those things you saw in the jungle identified as "????" that had closed clamshells next to them? It's those guys.
of 9: Click on the Mysterious Idol, the one right next to the Giant Wind Control Device (let's just call it the GWCD from now on), to get a close-up view. Does that weird face look familiar?
of 9: The fins on the weather vane have faces like that. Stick the weather vane in the top of the idol to see what happens.
of 9: It spins around until one specific face shows at the front. Click on the three wheels of the idol until they look the same.
of 9: Now use the Ancient Tool in the open clamshell right next to the Mysterious Idol. If you got the face bits correct --
of 9: -- the GWCD will bring down one finger and stop one of the four winds, the Wind That Knocks Off Your Hat. Yay! Only three more to go.
of 9: At this point, De Singe will show up and blow you away. Luckily, this doesn't seem to do any permanent damage to Guybrush, so just head for an exit so you get the overhead island view. The four idols are now identified so you can find them easily, so you're as good as home!
