The Elder Scrolls III: Tribunal Hints

Barilzar's Mazed Band

  • 1 of 6: You can get this quest after finishing both The Goblin Army and The Shrine of the Dead quests.  Talk to Fedris Hler about the usual "service to our lady" topic for the quest to go into the Abandoned Crypt and get Barilzar's Mazed Band.
  • 2 of 6: You can reach the Abandoned Crypt by heading west in the first section of Temple Sewers.  The path to Barilzar was blocked until you had this quest, so if you thought the Abandoned Crypt looked empty before, go back and check that area again.
  • 3 of 6: Keep searching the crypt until you find a path that loops around itself (it'll go west then turn in a loop to the north and cross back over itself).  Barilzar will be in this section.  You'll know him when you see him, since he'll give a short speech about never giving up the band and will then attack you.
  • 4 of 6: Of course, you need to kill him.  The one thing to watch out for is that he has the ability to blind you.  It'll probably help to have some sort of Resist Magicka or Reflect effect running to help protect you against his spell, or else just quickly cast a spell on him that does damage over time, so you can continue to hurt him even while blinded.  (One of my favorite items, the Vampiric Ring, comes in handy here, although similar items would also work.)
  • 5 of 6: Once Barilzar is dead, take the band (ring) off his body, and go back to report to Fedris.  He'll in turn send you to Gavas Drin, who then tells you that Almalexia wants you to deliver the ring to her personally.  You'll be able to enter the High Chapel now to see Almalexia.
  • 6 of 6: Pick "Barilzar's Mazed Band" and then say "It is my pleasure to serve you" instead of asking why she wants the ring, and Almalexia will give you the power "Almalexia's Light," which gives you the ability to restore all of your stats by 25 points when cast.
