The Elder Scrolls III: Tribunal Hints

Crimson Plague

  • 1 of 18: This quest may be a little tricky to discover -- there's a hidden trigger that you may or may not have set off while solving one of the main Temple quests.
  • 2 of 18: In particular, when you were down in the Temple Sewers, you may have noticed a rather empty-looking map section called "Gedna Relvel's Tomb" just off of the Temple Gardens.  (The Shrine of the Dead quest sent you down that way.)
  • 3 of 18: If you went into the tomb, you got a message saying something about a stench -- that message indicates that the quest was triggered.
  • 4 of 18: Talk to various people in town about "latest rumors" and one of them will eventually tell you that the healer Nerile Andaren in the Temple could use your help with a disease spread by rats.
  • 5 of 18: Nerile's in the Hall of Ministry section.  Talk to her, and she'll ask you to deliver a potion of Cure Common Disease to Geon Auline.  He's in Godsreach -- he even has his own house, so he should be easy to find.
  • 6 of 18: Deliver the potion, report back to Nerile, and she'll thank you for your work.  But you may have noticed that the quest isn't marked as finished in your journal -- you might want to come back later.
  • 7 of 18: Return to Nerile a day or two later, and the Hall of Ministry should be "flooded" with infected rats.  Well, half a dozen or so rats.  Kill them, and Nerile will send you to deliver another potion to Athelyn Malas.  Athelyn will now be almost literally outside the front door of the Temple in its courtyard.
  • 8 of 18: Once you've delivered the potion and reported back, Nerile will ask for another "favor" -- to check out the sewers to find the source of what Nerile now believes is the Crimson Plague.
  • 9 of 18: When you go downstairs to the basement, you'll run into a Khajiit named Shunari Eye-Fly, who's standing over a knocked-out ordinator.  Talk to her about the "guard", and she'll ask you to cure her with a spell or scroll in the Temple Gardens.  You could go to Nerile to pick up a scroll if you need one, or else just head straight for the gardens and cast a spell there.  (Potions won't work here.)
  • 10 of 18: Shunari will be standing next to the entrance to the Temple Shrine.  Cast your spell, and talk to Shunari to see what she has to offer you.
  • 11 of 18: Ask about "Gedna Relvel", and Shunari will say that she followed you into his tomb.  Then talk about "Crimson Plague", and she'll tell you to kill Gedna to stop the spread of the disease.
  • 12 of 18: If you head into the tomb, you may notice a space on your automap that you can't quite seem to reach.  It will be just before you reach the first staircase heading up as you're coming from the entrance.
  • 13 of 18: Remember that Shunari found Gedna earlier.
  • 14 of 18: Go back and talk to her again.
  • 15 of 18: Ask Shunari about "Gedna Relvel" a second time (after asking about "Crimson Plague", that is), and Shunari will mention a "secret passage".  Ask about that, and now you'll have the information you need.
  • 16 of 18: You need to stand on a rock that's just in front of the secret passage -- to the west of that first staircase.  Wait for a second or two, and the wall will move to reveal the passage.  If you haven't talked to Shunari about the passage, you can't go into it -- standing on the rock isn't enough unless you also received Shunari's tip.
  • 17 of 18: You'll then find Gedna on the other side of an unlocked metal door.  But before you proceed, be warned that Gedna is very tough to defeat.  I'd maybe even say this was the toughest single fight I had in all of this expansion.
  • 18 of 18: Once you've killed Gedna, take the rather impractical but still valuable Robe of the Lich artifact off his corpse, and report back to Shunari and Nerile.  Nerile will give you the power Grace of Almsivi, which restores your health and fatigue when used.
