The Elder Scrolls III: Tribunal Hints

How can I defeat Gedna Relvel?

  • 1 of 8: All of the usual combat tips should work here.  The one thing you want to be careful about is that Gedna's magical attack does tremendous amounts of poison, fire, and frost damage -- enough to knock most characters out in 1-3 hits.
  • 2 of 8: A strong Reflect or Spell Absorption spell/potion comes in very handy here -- you'll need that protection if Gedna attacks you.  (I'd recommend the Staff of Magnus from the original Morrowind for some temporary but powerful Spell Absorption.  The Flamemirror Robe from The Summoner quest in Mournhold casts Reflect and Resist Fire spells.)
  • 3 of 8: Note that Resist Magicka won't help here because it doesn't specifically protect against fire, frost, or poison damage.  Check the Neat Constant Effects List in the general tips of this hint file as well as the regular Morrowind hint file for items that give a constant resistance to fire, frost, and poison when worn.  (For instance, wearing the Dragonbone Cuirass would totally negate all of the fire-based damage from Gedna's spell.)  Also look for items that give you constant Reflect or Spell Absorption.
  • 4 of 8: A good Chameleon spell may also keep you from getting noticed in the first place, and will prevent Relvel from chasing you around.  At least if she's standing more or less still in one place, your maneuvering is much simpler.  Also, if you combine a powerful Chameleon with a good sneak skill, you can sneak up on her and do a lot of damage with a heavy melee weapon before she can get her first spell off.
  • 5 of 8: Also try to have some sort of long-term healing effect going, whether it's an enchanted item with a constant healing effect or a potion or spell with a fairly long duration.
  • 6 of 8: And use the layout of the room to your advantage.  There's one long wall in the center of the room, near where Gedna is first waiting, and a smaller pillar closer to the door.  You can hide behind these while you're healing, and if you see Gedna start to attack, move back under cover, so the blast doesn't hit you.  If you're lucky, Gedna might not even chase you to your hiding place at all, so you can attack on your timing.
  • 7 of 8: Gedna is immune to magicka, frost, disease, and poison; 50% resistant to shock; and constantly regenerates health, magicka, and fatigue.  So you'll need to use weapons that can deal out a lot of regular and/or fire damage (the Trueflame sword from the Temple main quests is very useful here).  If you're going to attack up close -- instead of using the Marksman skill, which probably would take a long time --  boosting your speed so that you can get in and out quickly is essential.
  • 8 of 8: Other than that, just keep at it.  You may need to come back after you've leveled up some more and/or found some good spells or potions to help you out.
