Uru: Ages Beyond Myst Hints
What am I supposed to do here?
1 of 7: As with the original Myst, your goal at first is supposed to be a little vague. You may want to explore a bit on your own before reading these hints any further.
2 of 7: Of course, you could read the manual and get a little bit of an idea of what the story is about, but even that doesn't explain why you're in the desert and what you're supposed to do here right away.
3 of 7: There's really only one feature of note here -- and that's the cleft you'll see a little bit past the trailer. (As you first arrive in the desert, and go forward and to your right, where you will eventually find the trailer and then the cleft.)
4 of 7: There's also only one way into the cleft itself.
5 of 7: You should find a ladder you can climb down. You don't seem to click on it -- just walk towards it, and your character will start to climb automatically. Then either click toward the bottom of the ladder, or press the DOWN (arrow) key on your keyboard to continue climbing down. If you simply try to walk forward to the ladder and then keep walking, it's possible that the game will think you want to climb up the ladder, rather than down it. Pausing once your avatar is on the ladder and changing keys or clicking towards the bottom of the ladder is the best way to head down.
6 of 7: Once you've explored of the entire cleft, you should find a console with four symbols on it. (If you haven't, reread the previous link, as this will tell you how to get to all of the important places in the cleft.)
7 of 7: If you have used the console successfully, you should now know that your goal is to find seven Journey Cloths (as they're named in the manual) or tapestries (as they're also called sometimes within the game) as part of your journey. The following link will tell you how to find those and what to do after you have found those.
