What is the clearer solution?

  • 1 of 26: The solution that will provide the clear answer to the keypad code requires some intuition, and some action, on Ardan's part.
  • 2 of 26: Look around the courtyard area, where you entered through the first large door.
  • 3 of 26: What happened when you came through that door?
  • 4 of 26: A short cut-scene immediately directed your attention to the wall on the right, which contains some blue diagrams and symbols.
  • 5 of 26: Do any of these symbols look familiar?
  • 6 of 26: The more complex diagrams are unclear right now; but near the bottom there is something that is very similar to the "formulas" shown on the various ledges, which provided to clues for subduing the plants.
  • 7 of 26: In this case, instead of a "greater than" symbol (">") -- which was used to indicate "subdues" or "overcomes" -- this time there seems to be an equation of some sort, indicated by the "plus" ("+") and  "equals" ("=") symbols.
  • 8 of 26: And two of the symbols at the beginning of the equation look familiar, because they were also used in the formulas on the ledges.
  • 9 of 26: In fact, they represent the fruit of the blue and yellow plants.
  • 10 of 26: And the final symbol -- the one to the right of the "equals" sign -- is one that you've had in your list of "known ideograms" since the beginning of the game.
  • 11 of 26: It stands for "food", or "eat".
  • 12 of 26: So a loose interpretation of this equation might be "Blue fruit + yellow fruit = food/eat".
  • 13 of 26: Could this be indicating that the blue and yellow fruits might be combined ("added") to get something edible?
  • 14 of 26: Have you tried feeding any of the fruit of the various plants to Ardan?
  • 15 of 26: Feeding him any one of the fruits individually doesn't seem to have any effect on him, one way or the other.
  • 16 of 26: But this "equation" appears to indicate that two of the fruits might be "added", or combined, together.
  • 17 of 26: Once the combination of blue and yellow fruit has been heated, it turns into a "compote" that is edible by Ardan.
  • 18 of 26: Click the compote on the figure of Ardan.
  • 19 of 26: Obviously something has happened as a result of eating the compote.  Ardan feels "weird", and his vision has a greenish tinge.
  • 20 of 26: What else might have happened as a result of the change?
  • 21 of 26: If Ardan's vision has changed, perhaps he should look around and see if there is any advantage to the "green vision".
  • 22 of 26: Go back up to the courtyard, and look at the large wall with all of the diagrams and symbols...
  • 23 of 26: ... particularly near the original equation that defined the combination of the blue and yellow fruit.
  • 24 of 26: A new set of symbols can now be seen.
  • 25 of 26: There are three symbols, clearly defined.
  • 26 of 26: And they are the three symbols that must be entered into the keypad, to unlock the gate.  Ardan deciphers them as "See Earth and die".
