How can I find the code for the two water control panels?
of 25: The two water control panels are similar, although the ideograms on their buttons are different.
of 25: And one of the panels seems to have had several of its button ideograms erased, for some reason! So it is impossible to know what they originally were.
of 25: The clue (for both) comes from one of the Selenite aliens.
of 25: Have you talked with Scurvy, the Insomniac -- the alien shepherd of the exile Selenites?
of 25: Scurvy lives on Level 3 in the underground caverns, at position "12".
of 25: It is a good idea to talk to him about every possible topic of discussion that is available to you. He will provide hints for several of the puzzles in the game.
of 25: Fortunately, Scurvy's most important points will also be entered into Ardan's log, for future reference.
of 25: If you follow the pipes behind the two water control panels, you will see that they eventually lead underground, and to the large pipe organ.
of 25: It is this pipe organ that can be used to call the exile aliens from their various locations, says Scurvy.
of 25: But before the organ can be used, it has to be supplied with water, using these water control panels.
of 25: And the key, according to the shepherd of the exiles, is that "you press once per line and once per column on the ideogram representing the liquid element..."
of 25: What is the "ideogram representing the liquid element"?
of 25: That would be water -- the two wavy lines.
of 25: Each panel accepts only a four-button code.
of 25: But at least one of the panels has more than four "water" ideograms. How can you know which four to press?
of 25: That's in the first part of Scurvy's clue. The four buttons must be "once per line and once per column".
of 25: In other words, no two buttons can be in the same row, or the same column; all must be unique.
of 25: Start with the panel that has all 16 ideograms clearly marked.
of 25: When the correct keys are pressed (in any order, as long as all four are pressed during one "cycle of four"), a small panel cover will open, revealing another valve.
of 25: However, this valve is different than the others you may have seen.
of 25: This valve has three positions, not two.
of 25: It can be turned to the left, to the right, or vertical.
of 25: The vertical position is "off".
of 25: Turning the valve to the left or right causes a comment from Ardan, denoting which direction the water is flowing.
of 25: To get water to the organ pipes, you will need to make sure that the water is flowing *from* the pond, back into the underground caverns. (It cannot be flowing toward the other panel with the 6 square buttons containing Selenite numbers).
