Wizardry 8 Hints
Creating Your Party
Your Wizardry 8 party is a projection of yourself into the gameworld, and as such is a very personal thing. Different players have differing tastes and playing styles, so no two parties will ever be the same. Fortunately, Wizardry 8 provides a wide variety of choices of character class and race, with no class being particularly over-powered. It is quite possible to finish the game with any number and configuration of classes. However, the most effective parties are those which can cover the basic skills listed below.
For a successful party, you'll want to make sure you have the following skills covered:
Strong fighting characters (at least 3) -- Fighter, Samurai, Ninja, Monk, Valkyrie, Lord, Ranger, and Rogue are all good candidates. Bards and Gadgeteers can become skilled fighters with a little more practice.
Someone to pick locks and open treasure chests -- The best choice is a character capable of learning Lockpicking skill: Rogue, Bard, Gadgeteer, or Ninja. Alternatively, you could use a spellcaster to open those locks but this approach is much less reliable and more time-consuming.
Someone to heal the party of their wounds -- The Priest is ideal for this role, but other decent healers include Alchemist and Psionic. Once they start learning spells at level 5, a Valkyrie or Lord can cover this skill as well.
At least one offensive magic user -- The best offensive spellcasters in the game are the Alchemist, Mage, and Psionic. Don't neglect the Bard and Gadgeteer for this role, however; their instruments and gadgets can cast many damaging spells, and are not limited by spell points.
That's it. The rest is up to you. Bear in mind that some classes are capable of covering more than one (or even all) of these skills, but generally, the more specialized you make each of your characters, the more effective your party will be as a whole.
